Nine year old Isabella has a newfound sense of independence and freedom thanks to her trike, funded by a Halberg Activity Fund grant.

The Taranaki local has cerebral palsy and liked to ride her previous bike with her brother and friends. Izzy’s new trike is suited to her needs and helps to maintain and improve her muscle strength. Izzy and her family live in a small town about an hour away from the city centre, so they are hoping it will enable her to be more involved with her local peers. Izzy’s mum, Angela, says that getting a new trike has improved her daughter’s range of movement and her hand, eye and foot coordination.

“Without Izzy realising, riding this trike will strengthen her muscle in her right leg,” Angela adds.

The St Joseph’s School student loves her trike as it has allowed her to have more independence and interaction with her friends.

“It has given her so much freedom. Izzy has been to the shop with her brother to get milk and bread. Thank you again for helping us get funding, we really appreciate it,” Angela says.
