Sixteen year old Heidi Parks has a passion for boxing and the attitude of a champion thanks to a Halberg Activity Fund grant for boxing lessons.
The Tararewa High School student has spina bifida and says that boxing is her favourite sport in the world.
Since taking boxing lessons she has a lot more energy and is continuing to work hard on fitness every day, as well as having fun.
“I really enjoy boxing and I have the best teachers. Before I joined boxing I wasn’t interested in any sport at all, but now I feel great,” Heidi says.
Halberg Senior Adviser from the Bay of Plenty, Dave MacCalman, says that Heidi has motivated herself to get active and fit.
“She is now ready to take on more challenges like attending the Halberg Games and being a member of the Kawerau Council’s Youth Council and Future Leaders Youth Advisory,” Dave says.
